The temperatures are soaring in Central, PA and it looks like there won’t be an relief this weekend. If your playing soccer this weekend be careful. Here are some tips to stay safe and as cool as possible while playing.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and if you think have enough already hydrate some more!
The biggest thing you need to remember when exercising in hot temperatures is to keep drinking fluids. (Note: non-alcoholic. Alcohol dehydrates the body. So does caffeine and high levels of sugar.) - Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.
- Avoid very cold drinks, because they can cause stomach cramps.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Keep an eye on your teammates and watch for symptoms of overheating: Nausea, Significant Fatigue, Weakness, Headache and Dizziness.
Be smart an play it safe. If you start to feel any symptoms of overheating stop playing right away.
